Instinct Over Influence is the follow up release to the 2007 debut The Emptiness by Melbourne’s Samsara. 2009 saw frontman Baina leave the band to concentrate on 50 Lions and Drummer Tim Shearman for The Red Shore. Nick Vine from Face Eater replaced Baina bringing a heavier and more dimensional vocal styling to the band. Mat Woodhouse (also from Face Eater) stepped in on drums and sounds the perfect match for the increase of intensity of the riffs on this second album. With this injection of new blood into what would arguably be one of Australia’s richest hardcore pedigrees (Within Blood, Shotpointblank, Mindsnare), Samsara has delivered an album that is even more aggressive and on the attack than it’s predecessor.
Samsara chose again to work with Kurt Ballou (Converge). The Album was tracked in Australia with Kurt and then taken back to be mixed at his GodCity studio in Salem MA, USA. The album was mastered in NYC at West West Side by Alan Douches.
Here’s what James Cotterell from Blunt Magazine had to say in his 4.5/5 review: ‘Instinct confirms that not only are Samsara a monster force to be reckoned with, but they are also Australia’s best hardcore band. Backed!’
